Winner of Sharon Pederson's, Rose of Sharon Block Book -Autographed :)

First, I want to thank the blogger who sent me an e-mail reminding me about the drawing last night.  I'd like to say I drew the number last night like I promised.....but I got busy and it slipped my mind.  I am going to have myself electronically reminded of such things so I don't forget.  Please forgive my tardiness.

So, without further ado, the winner of Sharon Pederson's book, The Rose of Sharon Block Book -Winning Designs From The EQ 6 Challenge
is
.....The  Random Number Generator says it is number 27,

Donna who said,
I fell head over heels in LOVE! with the Rose of Sharon quilt the first time I saw a picture. It is my must make! - one day. Thanks for the chance to win the autographed (Wow!) book. Happy quilting!
Congratulations Donna!!!  Please send me your full name and address to IHaveANotion@yahoo.com and I will put your book in the mail on Monday :)

I'm also giving away Susan Brubaker Knapp's latest DVD, Master Machine Stitching - Thread Sketching Beyond the Basics....so click on the link and follow the instructions and you could be the lucky winner of the DVD :)

Kelly

Sharon Pederson in Houston for Quilt Market 2010

Edited 11/16/10 9PM ish
Check the bottom of this post for Sharon Pederson's Comment on this post :)

Sharon Pederson signing books at the Martingale &Company Booth in Houston

Guess which incredibly lucky blog writer got to visit with Sharon Pederson and get an autographed copy of  The Rose of Sharon Block Book?   I'll give you three guesses :)

Look at these absolutely beautiful applique table runners and wall hangings.  I love applique and batik fabrics so naturally I was very focused.....close to a trance like state.....it also included lust.....desire....and yes....thread too!!!!

Ummmmm....I want to walk into my kitchen and see this pattern hanging on the wall.  That may not be too far off either.  The painters are here working in the kitchen all week....fresh painted walls just beg to be decorated ya know.

This book is a collection of winning entries from the EQ6 Rose of Sharon block-design challenge! Chosen by judges Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, these 12 blocks and 13th specially designed by Sharon Pederson
are in the book.   There are also 60 additional blocks from the challenge entries.  I love sitting and looking through my book at all the blocks....so inspiring.  Sharon also included instructions for machine applique and the assembly of projects in the book.

If you prefer a DVD, Rose of Sharon, is available too.  The cool thing about the DVD is that it has printable PDF (a photo format) and you can print the patterns.  The DVD has 112 additional blocks as well as photos and interviews with the 12 winners from the EQ6 Rose of Sharon Block-design challenge.  I'm the sort of person who wants them both.  At this point, I just own the book.....but I have the DVD on my wish list :)

Sharon Pederson also has an Aurifil Thread Collection....actually TWO collections.

If you own an GO! Fabric Cutter or a Sizzix Big Shot or Big Shot Pro you can also use the GO! Rose of Sharon Die to cut all your fabrics.  You know I own this die right?  I'm not bragging....I'm just saying, I love this quilt and I will be making one for myself.

For those that don't have a fabric cutting system, there are these great Rose of Sharon Templates.  These work just as well but require more time to trace and cut.  Either way you choose, you still end up with a beautiful Rose of Sharon quilt or other project.

Look at the machine embroidery on the back of this Rose of Sharon Quilt.  The back is just as beautiful as the front.  This is another quilt in and of itself, don't you think?  For those of you with an Embroidery Machine there is a Rose of Sharon CD and a Rose of Sharon USB available as well.
Edit: "The picture you have of the back of the quilt is actually bobbin thread from quilting it on an 'ordinary' Bernina machine - not an embroidery machine"....Sharon Pederson 11/16/10  FYI

It sure is a good thing I love this pattern, otherwise I might be tired of typing the phrase "Rose of Sharon" by now :)  Check out these Note Cards.  There are 12 cards and each one is an original interpretation of the classic Rose of Sharon Quilt Block from the winners of the 2009 Electric Quilt Challenge.  Talk about an affordable gift.....even you can afford to buy me a set of these cards!!!  It's ok if you miss a meal....I'm worth it :)  LOL

Funds from the sale of these Rose of Sharon items supports the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  I think it is amazing what a group of people can do when they work together.

All of the following people and companies are supporting the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative: Sharon Pederson, Nine Patch Media, The Electric Quilt Company, Alex Anderson, Ricky Tims, Martingale and CompanyAurifil, AccuQuilt, Island Batik, and Oklahoma Embroidery Supply and Design are ALL supporting the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  If you would like to add your name to the list just click here :)

Do you want to own an autographed copy of Sharon Pederson's book, The Rose of Sharon Block Book?  Just leave me a comment on this post telling me why you want to own this book and the random number generator will choose that lucky person on Friday evening, November 19th.

Smiles,
Kelly
PS.....I have photos of the ROS Challenge from Spring Quilt Market to post....I'll get to it...I promise :)

Hi Kelly: Thanks so much for the lovely blog entry about the Rose of Sharon project - I thought I'd answer the question about the Accuquilt die - Yes it does fit the Go Baby - I had fun demonstrating it in my class in Houston. One other thing you'll be interested in knowing. The picture you have of the back of the quilt is actually bobbin thread from quilting it on an 'ordinary' Bernina machine - not an embroidery machine. There is a quilt that was done on an embroidery machine and I'd be happy to send you a picture of it if you want. Again, many thanks for the lovely blog.

Cheers Sharon Pederson

AccuQuilt - Spring Quilt Market 2010- New Licensed Dies

Since IHAN is currently hosting an GO! Fabric Cutter  GIVEAWAY for a GO! Fabric Cutter I thought it would be fun to start with AccuQuilt.  I have mixed the photos from Schoolhouse* and Quilt Market for this post.

On the far left you can see a smidgen of a sample of Lady Eleanor's GO! Blazing Star, Lady Alex's GO! Bountiful Baskets, Lady Sharon's GO! Rose of Sharon and Sir Rick's GO! Arabesque #2.

Linda Pumphrey, National Sales Manager, opens  AccuQuilt Schoolhouse Presentation.
Lady Eleanor was her usual funny self during Schoolhouse (stay tuned for more photos).  Here she is introducing her new AccuQuilt Licensed Die GO! Blazing Star

There are lots of screens with presentations at Schoolhouse.  Why do I take a photo of the slide-show presentation?  (shrugging shoulders now)  Maybe so you will feel like you were there with me....maybe so I'll remember what I was doing there....in case my mental Rolodex slows down......oh who cares really....just enjoy the pix :)
This is an example of a quilt made using the GO! Blazing Star die. (gently borrowed from AccuQuilt :)

(this pix was taken during the unveiling of the Rose of Sharon Quilt Challenge by EQ, more on that later)
Sharon Pederson has brought the "Sharon" back to the Rose of Sharon Block"!!!  The new licensed die for the GO! Fabric Cutter makes cutting the Rose of Sharon pattern a zip, just cut and GO!.

Lady Sharon had to use her GO! Rose of Sharon Die on the GO! Fabric Cutter  to cut over 800 flowers (with fusible on the back).  Look how well her die held up!!!!  The GO! is not supposed to handle mass production....but it looks like it can handle a load of wear and tear and still keep cutting (Timex and AccuQuilt might consider a merger....it keeps a licking and keeps on ticking/cutting? No...ok forget it!)

Lady Sharon and Lady Alex are showing off the winning blocks from the Rose of Sharon Quilt Challenge hosted by The Electric Quilt Company.  We were not allowed to post any photos of these winning blocks before it was officially announced at Quilt Market.  No worries about IHAN posting secret photos....I had no camera cord!!!  LOL.
Sir Ricky Tims introduced his new GO! Fabric Cutter Dies, GO! Arabesque #2  and GO! Arabesque #3.  Some folks overestimate my skills with photo editing.  I know you can paste Sir Rick's eyes from one photo to another....but not this gal.  You get the pix just as I took it....eyes closed.  One benefit of this photo is that if you are in love with Ricky Tims, you can now visualize what he would look like with his eyes closed kissing you.  ROFL :)

Look how beautiful these blocks are!!!  You can use the dies in a number of ways.  You can place your fabric over only partial areas of the die to create your own variation of designs too.  We call that, "TOTB", Thinking Outside The Box!!!  (I'm not sure who we are exactly.....)
These are photos I took at the AccuQuilt booth at Quilt Market.  These show the Studio Die Cutter cutting Sir Ricky's patterns.
This is The Studio Cutter, available only through AccuQuilt.

Since I was running around trying to get photos of the Schoolhouse presentations I missed parts of some of them.  Unfortunately I missed Lady Alex Anderson's portion of the class : ( I'm soooo sorry Lady Alex. I will add the photos of her new Licensed Dies and show you samples of blocks you can make using her new GO! Bountiful Baskets and GO! Quarter Square-4" Finished Triangle
And....this is a sample of a quilt using Alex's GO! Bountiful Baskets Die (gently borrowed from AccuQuilt :)
And this is a quilt made using her GO! Quarter Square-4" Finished Triangle NEW Licensed Die .

I know I am not the Queen of Quilting and don't really have the authority to "donk" anyone with knighthood and ladyhood (?) titles.....but it sure makes the reading so much more fun doesn't it?  Perhaps Queen Elizabeth should come for a visit and bring her "donker."  ROFL

Oh....the "donker" goes by another more formal name, it is called a "Sceptre" too!  I guess I'll never make the Royal Court with my personalized IHAN  nouns and adjectives.

This is my first installment of Spring Quilt Market 2010 in Minneapolis.  I have to take my co-workers to play now.  More soon!!

Donked Smiles,
Kelly

*Schoolhouse is a series of  presentations that are held on Thursday before Quilt Market opens.
